Budoni and surroundings

Discover the north-eastern coast of Sardinia

Little jewel of the Baronie, on the north-eastern coastal stretch of Sardinia, the town of Budoni lies near small coves, enchanting cliffs, and long beaches composed of fine white sand.

Its fortunate geographical location also includes small brackish ponds, where typical vegetation of tamarisks and rushes thrives, and where colonies of pink flamingos reside.

The settlement is arranged around the church of San Giovanni Battista, the parish church of the town, dating back to 1969. There are also interesting archaeological remains, scattered in the ring of hills that frame the town, bordered by a dense pine forest of Mediterranean scrub: the nuraghe Su Entosu, a single-tower serving as a lookout, located on a granite peak; the nuraghe Conca e Bentu and the Domus de Jana l’Agliola in the hamlet of Solità. The nuraghe is situated on a hill overlooking the plain of Budoni, while the Domus de Jana is carved into a schist rock near the bank of a stream.

The stazzi of San Pietro are worth a visit, arranged along a route that offers a sequence of old dwellings, some built in local stone, others constructed with local stone, mud, and mortar, with brightly coloured interiors, and the characteristic stone and mud plinth running along the exterior facade of the house creating a seat: an exciting journey to discover the prototype of the ancient Sardinian village. Along this itinerary stands the little church of San Pietro del bosco, whose origin can be placed in the 14th century.

Also of great importance is the port of Ottiolu, equipped with over 400 berths, offering numerous services and an ideal starting point for small cruises to discover the magnificent coves of the coastal stretch.

There are plenty of leisure facilities: tennis, five-a-side football, horse riding, sailing, diving centres, and for entertainment: such as: discos, piano bars, evening shows in the square.

The numerous restaurants, trattorias, and agritourisms allow you to savour the seafood specialities and traditional products of Sardinian gastronomy.
